FOOD & Guide to Prescott

Try fabulous, tasty treats at a wide variety of shops and restaurants, plus get special back-of-the-house peeks, talk with owners, chefs and local characters (some in Victorina clothes or Western gear!) Along the way, our tour guide will give you insight into the history of Arizona’s FIRST capital! Including pointing out where the very FIRST restaurant in the Arizona Territory used to be. The guide may even let you in on where ghosts are known to linger…as Prescott is old, haunted, wonderful – and filled with delicious food! Keep reading for all the food that is included – you will be comfortably full by the time we end AND know where to go for future lunch or dinner! Insider secrets, tips and tricks on all the best places to eat and drink in Prescott.

Typically we visit 4-5 places, such as:

  • Ethnic Foods (Thai, Indian, Italian, Asian)
  • Local’s top choices / secret / favorite places
  • 2-3 restaurants
  • 2-3 food centers (think cheese shops, wineries, – off the beaten path)
  • 2-3 food locally owned, mom & pop food shops
  • Historic Restaurants / Buildings
  • Arizona’s oldest, continuously operated Saloon (family friendly)
  • Artisan Chocolates and Candies
  • Ice Cream, Gelato and/or Frozen Yogurt
  • Bakeries and Coffee Houses
  • Spice and/or Oil & Vinegar shops

Your fee includes several food tastings over the 2.5 hours plus water – you will be comfortably full by the end (we find women are usually VERY full, men not so much.)

AM tours start with a barista-made, 100% organic coffee of your choosing (or your choice of other cold drink, such as iced teas, sodas). Afternoon tours start with an ethnic appetizer or soup.  PM tours also include choice of house made chocolates (such as our famous “rodeo” – it’s like a turtle but on steroids) or perhaps a truffle filled with locally made wines or whiskey.

Along the way you will eat authentic Italian, wood fired buffalo-mozzarella & soppressata pizza; locally made bread with a large variety of olive oils & 18 year Balsalmic vinegars, a specially made dish using a variety of oil & vinegars (e.g. – watermelon & feta salad with raspberry vinegar or perhaps “cowboy caviar” [bean salsa] with spicy olive oil). You can also expect roasted nuts, fudge, chocolate and award winning ice cream. (We are working on a stop at a BBQ Joint or Street Taco location – negotiations are in the works).

FREE CANCELLATION! Sign up without fear! If something changes – you can cancel up to 48 hours in advance. NO worries. We will issue a full refund if you let us know at least 48 hours before your tour is set to start. (It may take us a couple days to process it… but we will honor your refund. It’s the Prescott way.)

Pre-registration is required. Prescott is a smaller tourist town –so you will understand why we need advance sign ups.

DISCOUNTS, FREEBIES, & MORE: All of the venues will offer special discounts/coupons for our tour guests.

Additionally, at the end of the tour we will give you a brochure with lots more foodie insights, restaurant recommendations & loads of OTHER places not right near the Plaza – for you to check out on your own.

We’ll give you insights on where you MUST have reservations (or know somebody) to get in, where the best or least expensive happy hours are, and secrets that only the locals know (e.g. – free music, best bar tenders, most excellent chefs, & more.) Believe us – things change FAST in the food industry. And in Prescott – well, they aren’t GREAT about updating their websites, social media, Yelp… we keep a pulse on where the GREAT things are going on, especially for YOUR weekend/trip.

MEETING SPOT: Please arrive at the Courthouse steps (facing Gurley St) a few minutes before the tour begins. We will talk about the history of Prescott while waiting for everyone to join. Wear comfortable clothes, walking shoes (it will be about 1.5 mile of walking). The Courthouse is located in the CENTER of Prescott’s historic downtown, right on Whisky Row. Free parking in the parking structure on Granite Street (just behind Whiskey Row) is best place to park.

NOTE: We will walk about 1.5 miles. Wear good walking shoes. Some venues may not be great for wheelchairs (e.g. – you can access them – but may need to go around building to front, etc. as we will be using alleys to find all the secret places…).

Wear hat, sunscreen, good walking shoes. Bring water.

We go RAIN or SHINE! – Dress appropriately and bring weather gear if you think you’ll need it. Summer often bring afternoon thunderstorms – but its part of the fun of Northern Arizona! We love our monsoons!

VEGETARIAN / ALLERGIES: MOST of our stops can accommodate vegetarians. Many will have gluten-free options, please let us know ahead of time. If you have a serious food allergy, this tour is not be a good fit.

CHILDREN: You are free to bring well mannered children with you. There is no additional charge for them. They will get free samples / nibbles – but not be purchased a restaurant items nor coffee/soft drink. You are free to bring their sippy cups, share your food, buy extra, etc. If they kids start to lose it – please be mindful of the others on the tour and help your child calm down/ take a break.  (We love kids! But we also know it can be a bit challenging…please help us so we can keep the tour moving along. THANK YOU!)

DOGS/PETS: You may bring well mannered dogs – you are fully responsible for them (including keeping on leash, picking up poop, not biting, etc.) Many food establishments will NOT let you bring them inside! So you/your partner will have to stay outside with the pet. NOTE: We *may* cut through some businesses – you will have to walk further/go around the outside. We can help you with that.  (Help us keep this tour pet friendly! If not – we’ll have to change this policy.  Thank you!!)

*Because food shops and restaurants are always changing – we keep up to date on what is going on in the Prescott Downtown. When possible, we arrange for samples at selected sites. You can, of course, always purchase items (and we hope that you will!). ALL of our downtown shops are locally owned, independent boutiques, restaurants, artisan style – and we appreciate your kind support of “small town America.”  THANK YOU!!
